I never realised how accurate the cartoons of bees were until I saw the bumblebees here, their low drones announcing bodies that seem to comically large to be aerodynamic, and their fuzzy bodies looking ready to be stroked. That is, until I discovered that these bees have no barbs on their stingers, and are capable of stinging more than once, like a wasp.

ReplyDeleteIt's sitting on an head of lavender. They're pretty regular in size; about the same diameter as a your thumb, and about 1.25" long
